Inspiration for the new semester

I know that some people’s semester has already gone( mid-terms are creeping up), but mine is only two weeks old. I haven’t mentioned this before, but I am a Biology pre-med major, so my classes are kinda hard. We all know that med school is hard to get into (if you didn’t know, well it is), and that builds up the pressure to succeed each semester. I will share some of the things that I get inspiration from

  1. Baba God-I am a baby Christian. It doesn’t mean that I am a child, it just means that my faith is growing. I depend on God for everything, most especially my sanity. I would not be where I am today with the inspiration that the Bible gives me. Jesus and the life he led, is my biggest inspiration.
  2. My parents– I know its kind of cliche, but anyone paying your tuition is inspirational. My parents are very hardworking, and have given their blood, sweat and tears so that my siblings and I can get a good education. Sometimes, the only reason I wake up in the morning to go to class is because I remember how much tuition is, especially in this recession that the Naira has entered. I have to pity my parents and make sure that their investment in me yields excessive returns.
  3. My siblings-As the ada of the family(first daughter) and also the first child, I have people who look up to me for guidance. I remember when I was younger and my siblings would fight each other. I would just be sitting down minding my own business, when my mum would come out and shout at me. (my nigerian readers know that shouting is usually accompanied by a few slaps here and there) I was so bothered and confused because I wasn’t the person fighting. She told me that as long as I am there, I should lead and be a good example for my siblings to follow. The need to lead and not mess up because people are watching has been ingrained in me since a young age. I draw inspiration from that because when my siblings see me succeed, they ultimately want to succeed.
  4. My teachers-I know this one might be weird but it is true. Do you ever have those teachers who are doing great things with their lives and motivate you to be just as great or even greater than they are. I have this Chemistry professor who is everything I want to be. She is a working class mom who never lets any side of her life flip. I know she isn’t perfect, but she is definitely working towards it. I see her and I remember that she was once in the position that I am in today, and if she can do it, so can I.
  5. My friends-Separate your friends from your acquintances. Not everybody has the right to be placed in your book of friendship(this should be a blog on its own). Make friends with people who motivate you to be great. Make friends with people who aren’t threatened by your success. Make friends who inspire you in whatever interest that you have.
  6. Myself-Yes I inspire myself. I like to write down things. I write down the day I started any sort of journey in my life. I like to look at where I was, and where I am now. You do not need others to acknowledge your greatness before you do. You are breathing, living, and actively participating in God’s world, hence, you are great. Look at the struggles you have overcome, the successes you have achieved, and let that be just a starting point for you. One of my favorite quotes reads, ‘Shoot for the moon, and if you miss, you will land amongst the stars.’

Jeremiah 29:11-‘For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’
