I know I have been out of it for a while, but the important thing is that I am back. First of all, I want to wish everybody a Happy New Year! It’s 2017 people. We made it out of 2016, and I could not be happier. Since this post is focused on my trip to Nigeria, I will wait for another to talk about my 2016 challenges and successes, and my hopes for 2017.

After my exams in December I went through Atlanta to Lagos. I don’t live in Lagos but my dad is there so it was convenient for me to go. The next day, I went to Abuja. I haven’t been to Abuja since 2015, and I was overjoyed to be back home. Even the heat could not stop my joy. I did Abuja parolz like no other. I saw friends that I hadn’t seen in years, and I went to places that I had never been. Two of which were Charcoal (a restaurant and lounge in Wuse) and the Quarter (near British Council). The food at both places was good but it was expensive in true Abuja fashion. Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures of me there.

After a week in Abuja, we packed our bags and headed to our village in Anambra State. Igbo people always go to the village for Christmas. I can’t remember the last time we didn’t go. My brother’s birthday is on Christmas eve, and he turned 18, so my mother threw him a party to make it special.It was so much fun and DJ OJ (a DJ from Enugu that my mom got last minute) had us dancing into the night.

Throughout Christmas break, we attended housewarming parties, thanksgiving ceremonies and the occasional visits to family friends. I also spent break perfecting my driving skills. I know the roads of Anambra like the back of my palm (sometimes). On New Year’s Day, we went to my mother’s village in keeping with family tradition and I saw all my maternal cousins.

I really appreciate the opportunity to spend time with my family, as many do not have that chance. I had fun in Nigeria, and my only regret is wishing that I took more pictures. I have more plans for my blog this year and with your help, I hope to achieve them.

P.S-I will be going to Kenya this January as part of a class. This blog will double as a blog for my trip to Kenya. Don’t be shocked by the slightly more academic writing to come in the following month. There will definitely be pictures of this trip.
