I have been blogging for a year today. I can’t believe it. I remember when I first started, I didn’t know anything about blogging, and now, I still know very little. Blogging was something I had been wanting to do for a while, and during my Jan term break, I decided to give it a shot. There were times when I would blog consistently, and other times when I would be MIA, but in all, God has been faithful. Thank you to all my readers because your support gave me the courage to continue. For all those looking to start something new this year without knowing how, get your laptop out now and google it. Rome wasn’t built in a day, but it had to have started someday. Put the doubts aside and take the first step, believe me the rest will come as well.
Tuesday
The last week was spent saying bye to the girls. I went to work at Simama, and we met Matt the founder. They interviewed some of the new intakes, so we decided to make ourselves scarce by going to the Coffee Shack. Let’s just say that I met people at there that I hope never to see again. Back at school, we had media club, and I spent most of it saying my goodbyes to my mentee. During dinner, I asked my table girls for their Swahili names and their meanings. They had told us to call them by their English names because it would be easier for us.
Wednesday
Our last day as tourists. We visited the Nanyuki spinners and weavers. They are a women’s self help group, which also runs a nursery and primary school. We saw the process of making scarves, carpets, rugs, etc, from the spinning, washing, dyeing, to the weaving. It was fascinating and expensive. Definitely beyond my budget, but good work. We went to the Simama home were we spent time with the kids. We took loads of pictures and said our goodbyes. It was hard and sad, and I basically ran to the car so that I wouldn’t cry. We had our last supper with the girls, and began saying our goodbyes.
Thursday
The time to go had finally come, and I couldn’t be sadder. I tried to make every meal longer by coming early and leaving late. I even came for tea break (which like never happens). We said goodbye to everyone, took pictures, loaded the bus, and began our six hour journey to Nairobi. An hour out of Nairobi, our tire burst. We heard the sound before the smell, and it took us like thirty seconds to realize it was the tire. It took a while to fix (an hour) so we had to call in for another vehicle. Some of us became agitated and others scared, but to the glory of God, we made it home safe and sound.
I am currently tired, jetlagged and my sense of night and day completely screwed up. This trip was amazing, and i keep telling my relatives that we have to go sometime. I miss everyone, and I am not ready for real life to start. Thank God for the break. I couldn’t even keep my eyes open long enough to watch lady Gaga perform. O well! Below is a link to my digital story, hope you enjoy it. Once again, thank you to all my readers. Without you, my morale would be low, and I might not be here today. Thanks for your love and support. Hope to see you in more blog posts.
